Castle Rock Community

Castle Rock is located in the heart of Crowfoot Valley featuring great views of the Rocky Mountains.  The town of Castle Rock sits at 6,202 feet above sea level and is 33 square miles in size. Castle Rock's small town charm and beautiful views are the reasons why it attracts thousands of new residents annually.

Castle Rock, named for the rock formation that overlooks the town, was incorporated in 1881.  The population has increased from 3,900 in 1980 to 29,000 in 2003.  Despite the tremendous growth percentage, Castle Rock still retains a small town characteristic.

Castle Rock Education

Public school students in Castle Rock consistently score above state as well as national average in the college entrance exams.  Castle Rock also has the lowest drop-out rate in the state.  Public schools are served by the Douglas County School District with 4 Elementary Schools, 1 Charter School, 1 Middle School and 1 High School.

Castle Rock History

Settlers were first drawn to Castle Rock in hope of striking rich with gold.  What they found instead was rhyolite stone which is what Castle Rock is now known for.  Jeremiah Gould, one of the original homesteaders, donated a majority of his portion of land to be named "Castle Rock" to build the town and community.

Castle Rock Recreation Center and Castle Rock Senior Center are the two major centers serving the city's recreational needs.  There are also 9 public parks with playgrounds covering more than 170 acres, 3 public swimming pools and numerous athletic fields with extensive sports programs.

Major highways going through Castle Rock are I-25, US85, CO83 and CO86.  Castle Rock is a 20 minutes drive from Centennial Airport.  Denver International Airport and Colorado Springs Airport are approximately 45 minutes away.  Ground travelers also have access to the Denver and Rio Grande, Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe rail lines.
